LEI Registration & Renewal Services

gleif logoA Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) is a unique identification code consisting of 20 letters and numbers, registered to one legally distinct entity that engages in certain financial market transactions.

Mortgage industry participants will need an LEI to comply with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) requirements

These requirements include assigning a Universal Loan Identifier (ULI) that contains the financial institution’s LEI to each covered transaction beginning in 2018. In support of the industry's compliance efforts, MERSCORP Holdings has partnered with the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation’s GMEI® Utility to provide LEI registration and renewal services to MERS® System Members and other industry participants as an authorized registration agent. This collaboration combines MERSCORP Holdings’ market expertise and infrastructure with GMEI® Utility’s proven capabilities in the LEI space. In addition to links to the online applications to apply for or renew an LEI, we have also provided links to various HMDA compliance resources on this website.
