Reston, Virginia, May 15, 2017—MERSCORP Holdings, Inc. announced today that it has entered into a new partnership agreement with The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC)’s subsidiary operating the Global Markets Entity Identifier utility (GMEI utility) to facilitate legal entity identifier (LEI) registrations and renewals for MERS® System Members and other mortgage participants. The company is on target to provide the web-based service in the third quarter of this year.

This initiative will enable MERSCORP Holdings to support the mortgage industry’s efforts to comply with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) requirements. These requirements include a Universal Loan Identifier (ULI) that contains the financial institution’s LEI. MERSCORP Holdings will provide the LEI registration and renewal service through DTCC’s GMEI utility.

“MERSCORP Holdings has served as the mortgage industry’s utility for 20 years, and with the majority of residential mortgage originations registered on the MERS® System today, we believe we can add even greater value by providing our MERS® System Members and other industry participants with assistance meeting this HMDA requirement,” said MERSCORP Holdings President & CEO, Bill Beckmann.

Ron Jordan, Managing Director of Data Services at DTCC, added, “We are happy to partner with MERSCORP Holdings on this initiative. DTCC’s GMEI utility, which has been accredited by the Global LEI Foundation (GLEIF), continues to operate as the largest LEI issuer by share of the total LEIs issued worldwide, and MERSCORP Holdings has the mortgage industry relationships needed to educate clients on the requirements and facilitate their registration and renewal process.”
